Health Officer Concerned About St. Patrick's Day, Spring Travel

 By the top of the week, quite 58,000 Ingham County residents will have gotten a minimum of one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. Even with vaccinations on the increase, the Ingham County Health Department sees some potential risks ahead.

Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day, one among the most active days of the year to bars. In East Lansing, indoor capacity limits are being enforced, and features outside bars aren't permitted.


Also on the horizon is respite. Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail expects people will check travel, but take precautions if they are doing hit the road. "You know, nobody has secured down travel at now near time," Vail says, "so it’s only a matter of just trying to but encourage diligence regarding what's safe and what's not safe.”


Vail hopes that diligence will prevent a spring surge of COVID-19 cases. “It’s a concerning time," she concludes, "especially when we’re seeing a rise in cases generally, which hopefully, we’re not getting to see that big surge. We’re just getting to see a touch little bit of a tip-up, and are available backtrack .”


McLaren Greater Lansing and Sparrow hospitals currently own a blended 41 COVID-19 patients.
